Trip to Maastricht: Strange Birds

I was on a weekend trip to Maastricht one-and-a-half weeks ago. Of course I made quite some photo's and I promissed you to publish them :-)

For a change I will not start with all the standard touristic sights of Maastricht. You will see them, but just not now.
Now I want to tell you about an encounter with a couple of strange birds. Not quite birds of a feather, but more the fluffy toy animal kind. Like me. A fluffy soft toy animal as well. I always like to meet new fluffy people.

Anyways. I was walking through the Brusselsestraat when I saw a shop. It appeared dark to me. It was an atmosphere of black, grey, metal and some blueish black-light. It was called Bodypiercing Lifestyle Maastricht.

It is were you pay them to pierce any human bodypart you like to have pierced.
Human bodypart. I was wondering. Would they pierce fluffy plush toy sheep like me as well? Would it be too bizarre?
I chickened out after I realized that piercing plush sheep is irriversable. With humans, the tissue can close again (you might end up with a small scar). With sheep like me: a hole is a hole. But... Would they pierce fluffy toy animals?

I moved on to the other side of the street. There I bumped into a shop that was not dark, black and grey. It was so brightly colourful that I thought for a split second I was on drugs. But I wasn't. It was The Happy House. Happy for sure! A shop were you can get crazy hair (like fluorescent pink dreadlocks), funny stuff and toys. As long as it is bright, fluorescent and extremely colourful. Well, you can see it in the shopping window. I entered, because I expected some potential new plush toy friends.

After being stunned by all the colours I saw several fluffy and plush toy animals! Hurray! Including several small cute birds. And two bigger birds. Apparently the parents of the little fellows. The Strange Birds.
My hypothetical question seemed to have been answered. Those two birds were pierced. Heavily pierced. Who pierced them? The girl slash owner of the shop told me - By the way, she blended into the shop perfectly, just as colourful cloths and hair as the rest of the shop - She had her friend pierce the two birds. Her friend from the Bodypiercing shop across the street...
Two of the most bizarre, hip, trendy, cool, strange and friendly fluffy birds I have ever met! Most of all: pierced birds.
I was thinking to myself: would I join the club? Would I?

I received a mail back from "B" the girl in the shop. She like the story and thought it was 'kei-gaaf' (southern Dutch for awesome).
She also invited me to have my ear pierced whenever I am in Maastricht again...

Another space saver, deck mounted bird baths are excellent for homes short of yard space. Also, deck mounted baths can be set up directly outside a window so that you can enjoy the birds while in the comfort of your own home. Find out more about bird food supply
